Fresh fruits and vegetables are abundant in Medellín, so it is easy to eat healthly. There are also afordable gyms and the chance to practice outdoor sports all year long to stay fit.

An added plus to living in Medellín is that unlike Mexcio and some of the other countries south of the border the water is potable, making it safe to drink. However, bottled wáter is available everywhere.

Colombia’s country’s health care is world famous. Medellin’s is known a mecca for medical tourism. Every year, thousands of foreigners from all over the world come to the city of Medellin for medical procedures. Doctors and surgeons study at the country’s prestigious medical schools. A large number of local health professionals study abroad, where they have the opportunity to receive additional training and expertise. Cost of treatment is far less than in the U.S.

The most common treatments are plastic surgery, refractive surgery, dental procedures, transplants as well as treatments for heart problems and cancer. Most clinics and hospitals are now aware of their international reach and have appointed staff to assist foreign patients.

There are plenty of good hospitals and clinics in and around Medellin. According to one publication, the five of the best hospitals in all Latin are located in Medellín.

Staying Busy and Happy

 As one expat resident put it, Medellín offers “something for everyone and everything for someone.” The city is replete with beautifull parks, museums, colorful yearly festivals and celebrations, affordable restaurants, a plethora of nightlife (reputed to be some of the best in the world), movie theaters, world-class shopping malls, modern super markets like Pricesmart (similar to Costco), excellent Internet, affordable gymnasiums, outdoor cafés, bike paths, satellite TV, sporting venues, cooking clases, Spanish schools, art galleries, casinos and the chance to explore by trips to different areas around the country like Cartagena.

When it comes to staying busy, the bottom lin eis that you have no excuse for being bored in Medellín unless you are just plain lazy.
